I create mixed media paintings inspired by both the natural and manmade environment. Focusing on detail rather than the grand vista, it is colours, patterns and textures that draw me to my subject matter. In most of my work, photography plays an important role not just as a method of recording but also as a way of bringing another dimension to the finished work. Fragments of photographs are manipulated, photocopied onto acetate and layered within the surface work or transferred directly on to the wood or paper using a range of different transfer processes. I am always experimenting with different ways of combining materials and the surfaces of my work are often textured or layered using paper, fabric or found materials combined with glazes and washes. In my current work I am exploring the possibilities of overlaying my paintings with digital images transferred on to Perspex to create vibrant multilayered images. .
