Since my earliest days nothing has inspired my paintings more than nature at its wildest. I still vividly remember as a child watching a wonderful sea pounding through the girders of Sandown Pier, I didn't know then that in future I would be spending so much time trying to paint the sea. Now I'm lucky enough to be living in Cornwall with its beautiful rugged moors and wild coastline, there is never enough time in the day to express it all! The light here is very sharp and on certain days the atmospheric conditions change rapidly and for the painter, often elusively. The county is truly blessed with a mystic quality that can happily infiltrate a painter's work.  I am truly excited at the thought of observing nature and taking up my brushes tomorrow. Mike was born in Preston in 1948. In his early twenties he emigrated to Australia and later travelled to New Zealand where he held his first exhibition. He returned to the UK to attend Preston and Plymouth colleges of art before settling in Cornwall. Amongst other things, Mike has won the Western Morning News Open Art competition, he has won various prizes from the Society of Arts for Cornwall and he has exhibited in various South West Opens.
